About SleepGearPros

We review sleep trackers, CPAP machines, and smart mattresses using HRV accuracy data, clinical context for APAP claims, and true 3-year cost including subscriptions. No manufacturer sponsors. No paid placements.

What We Do

sleepgearpros.com is an independent review site for sleep technology. We focus on three things:

  1. True cost of ownership. Every review includes the device price plus subscription costs over 3 years. A tracker with a low sticker price and a $10/month subscription becomes the most expensive option by year two.
  2. Clinical accuracy context. Consumer sleep trackers estimate sleep stages from heart rate and movement — they do not measure brainwaves. We note this limitation clearly and report on published validation studies where they exist.
  3. CPAP clinical accuracy. We verify FDA clearance, APAP vs CPAP distinctions, and pressure range specs for every machine we review. CPAP devices are medical equipment — accuracy matters.

We do not accept free products. Rankings come from published specs, academic validation studies, and community feedback from r/SleepApnea, r/Oura, and CPAP.com forums.

Affiliate Disclosure

sleepgearpros.com is reader-supported. When you buy through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission at no extra cost to you. This is how we fund the site without display ads or sponsored content.

Affiliate commissions do not influence our rankings. Eight Sleep pays $100-150 per referral. Garmin routes through Amazon at 1-4%. Our rankings do not reflect that spread — specs do.

Affiliate programs we participate in:

Amazon Associates

Product links for brands sold on Amazon use our Associates tag (sleepgearpros-20). We earn 1-4% on qualifying purchases. Commission is the same regardless of which product you buy.

Eight Sleep (Direct Partnership)

$100-150 per referral. The highest commission we earn from any partner. Our Eight Sleep Pod 4 review still notes the mandatory $17-25/month subscription and the steep total cost of ownership. High commission does not buy positive coverage.

Oura (Direct), Withings (Direct), CPAP.com (via ShareASale)

Oura: $20/referral. Withings: 8% commission, 30-day cookie. CPAP.com: 5-8% via ShareASale. Rates vary — our editorial standards do not.

How We Evaluate Products

  1. 3-year total cost calculation. Device price plus monthly subscription times 36 months. This is always included in the review summary.
  2. Validation study check. For sleep trackers, we note whether published peer-reviewed validation studies exist and what they found. Oura Gen 3/4, Withings, and Garmin have published validation data. Many cheaper trackers do not.
  3. CPAP prescription verification. Every CPAP machine listed requires a prescription in the US. We note this clearly and do not link to workarounds.
  4. Subscription transparency. We note which features require paid subscriptions vs which are free. Oura locks HRV trend data behind its membership. Eight Sleep locks Autopilot and sleep staging behind its membership. We document these gates.
  5. Community feedback integration. Long-term wear comfort, sizing issues, sensor drift, and app complaints from forums surface real issues that spec sheets miss.

FTC Compliance

In accordance with FTC guidelines, we disclose our affiliate relationships in the site footer, at the bottom of each review page, and in full on this page.

Clicking an affiliate link does not change the price you pay. The retailer pays us a commission from their margin.
